Lead the Story You Want to Tell:
Heal, Rise, & Raise Others
Consider your leadership story. Perhaps you’ve had leaders who inspired and
empowered you—believing in you more than you believed in yourself. Perhaps
you’ve also been hurt by a leader—suffering a leadership injury with lasting effects.
Drawing on more than a decade of clinical expertise working with combat veterans, this session adapts techniques used to heal invisible injuries from the battlefield to the business world and beyond—offering a practical, story-based approach.
You’ll gain a roadmap for recovery, building personal resilience and stronger,
healthier teams. Explore leadership dynamics using a four-character framework that distinguishes victims, villains, heroes, and guides who draw out the hero in others—equipping you to address leadership challenges and shape the story your leadership tells.
Learning Objectives
Identify how leadership injuries occur and the harm they cause—including the three most common patterns you’re likely to see affecting your team
Learn the five-step process for healing leadership injuries—using pain from the past as fuel to become better and stronger than ever
Recognize the role you are playing in your own leadership story—and be intentional about the role you play in the stories of others you lead

Dr. April Minatrea (“Min-uh-tree”) is a psychologist, speaker, and leadership expert who invites leaders to examine the stories we tell ourselves and others — and the stories they tell about us. She guides audiences to heal from past hurts, break through limiting beliefs, and forge forward with greater clarity and hope.
Dr. April brings insight and expertise developed across her work in private practice, with the VA and Department of Defense, and as the Director of Leadership Excellence for the Exponential Mindset Group — translating hard-won lessons for leaders navigating complexity and change.
Her presentations are known for being infused with heart and humor while exploring what makes us deeply human – sharpening leadership from the inside out and inspiring leaders to live the story they want to tell.
